The Pathways High schedule with longer class periods, alternating days schedule and Flex time gives students and teacher the structure to attack challenging and varied material. As part of our design to personalize education and teach EMPOWER Skills, our school day is structured to allow students to set personal goals and manage some of their own time and interests.
Flex Time: As part of our design to personalize education and teach EMPOWER Skills, our school day is structured to allow students to set personal goals and manage some of their own time and interests. A total of 5 hours per week outside of standard school hours (which are 8:30 am to 3:30 pm) must be logged for monitoring. Goals are set during Advisory and monitored for quality use of time and meeting goals. Time could be used for any of the following, as well as more:
Service to the school, flyer creation, event planning, bulletin board management, genius bar.
Student Ambassador to the community.
New student recruitment or support.
Teaching Assistant of specific skills.
Expert in Residence courses which could include: dance, music, art, robotics, computer coding or student requested courses.
School curator of long term exhibitions of work
Assistant Manager for an Elementary Destination Imagination team.
Independent Study focusing on an area of personal interest or need.
GOTO Experts: All students will work toward becoming certified an expert in a chosen field. GOTO Experts are encouraged to assist other students during their flex time. (Application and Vetting process will be developed by Student Governing Council during the planning year.)
Schedule: Each class (Freshman-Seniors) will be divided into 4 groups. For ease of understanding on the schedule below we have used blue, purple, green and yellow. These color teams will stay the same for the duration of the students time at Pathways High. It is in these teams that students will be grouped together in Advisory and IMPACT classes. Advisory will be further narrowed down to teams of 10-15 students each and the same Advisor will work with the same students year to year. The day will consist of 4 hour and a half periods. Pathways High will also rotate on an A/B schedule to alternate between Math and Language. During period three students will have IMPACT classes 2 days a week, semester courses 2 days a week and writing lab weekly. Semester courses will change depending on if students select to be part of the 5th year IMPACT program or basic 4 year program.
