  • Mastery Transcript | Pathways High

Stand out with a Pathways High Mastery Transcript! Document your skills & learning journeys, not just grades. Real-world evidence & project portfolios prepare you for college & careers. PROJECT-BASED LEARNING MASTERY TRANSCRIPT MASTERY TRANSCRIPT . OUR SAMPLE TRANSCRIPT FAQs Students demonstrate their knowledge during interdisciplinary seminars by submitting evidence into our learning management software. A mastery transcript is a flexible, non-traditional record of a student's achievements that highlights their competencies, skills, and learning experiences instead of using conventional grades. It is designed to provide a more comprehensive and personalized depiction of a student's abilities and readiness for future opportunities. DESIGN PRINCIPLES . How does the Mastery Transcript help learners and readers? Flexible, but Consistent Competencies are defined and certified by members; MTC does not mandate a specific set of skills. At the same time, we provide a consistent format so that readers can review our records with speed and accuracy. Compact, but Layered As digital, interactive documents, the Mastery Transcript and MTC Learning Record provide a compact “top layer” that can be quickly scanned, with additional information layered beneath for readers who want to dive deeper into a learner’s credentials. Equitable These records are created to serve learners from all backgrounds and to support them in a variety of post-high school goals, whether that be admission to a selective four-year university, placement at a community college, or entry into the workforce. No Grades on Mastery Transcripts MTC members don’t reduce learners to single numbers, but they do hold them to high standards. When learners master critical skills and content, they earn competencies which combine to create a clear, succinct visualization of each learner’s strengths. Learner-Centric, but Contextual Learners own their own profile page and can choose to feature particular projects and achievements. The published version remains an official record, and it contains information to help readers understand the learner’s achievements in the context of their school or program. OUR SAMPLE TRANSCRIPT . STUDENT STATEMENT . I use my skills to activate the voices of others and create an empathetic environment while giving back to my community. My drive to learn more about other cultures has sparked conversations and helped me on my journey to self-discovery. Your transcript is a resume; they can see all of the skills that I have because the real world is portfolio-based. Tate G; 12th grader MASTERY TRANSCRIPT CONSORTIUM . For each standard taught a student is required to have at least one piece of evidence in order to demonstrate proficiency or mastery. Students continue to submit evidence until they are consistently showing at least Proficiency (P) of a standard. No credit or partial credit can be given until proficiency, at minimum, is met for a standard. Students are encouraged to seek Mastery (M) prior to their transcript being generated upon graduation. We are a member of the Mastery Transcript Consortium (MTC) and were the first of four high schools in the nation to issue the mastery transcript in 2021. • MIDDLE SCHOOL STAFF | Pathways High

ABOUT PATHWAYS MIDDLE SCHOOL STAFF GET TO KNOW OUR TEACHER What are you looking forward to? Middle schoolers are still developing their interests and personalities, and I can't wait to introduce students to things they've never tried before and watch them be surprised at what they discover they love! I am looking forward to getting to explore a wide variety of skills and media using the PBL model - from engineering to filmmaking to getting their art displayed and writing published. The limit will be as far as their imaginations can take them! Why do you want to teach middle school? I've spent years watching high schoolers and thinking about what skills and knowledge I wish they had acquired earlier so they can take full advantage of new opportunities that are opening up to them. Now I get to actually be there for that and help them get fully prepared for their Pathways High experience! Why are you excited? I am excited about getting to build our middle school program from the ground up and rethinking what school can look like for this age group. We are not limited to simply doing things because that’s the way they’ve always been done, but we can build the program around what works best for the students we have. I am excited to work with the amazing Pathways team and grow our school even further! What is your vision for middle school? I envision a diverse cohort of students who are excited to learn, collaborate, and make really cool things together. I want to create a small, supportive environment where they have room to explore their interests, develop their strengths and discover new ones. There will be a big emphasis on community building and learning to work together to help ground students in the real world and out of their screens! What is your previous teaching experience? I've been in the classroom for 11 years, including 3 years supporting middle school math, which I am excited to return to! For the past 7 years I've been teaching high school science, including the last 2 here at Pathways. Anything else that would be fun to share. I think it is important for teachers to model the learning process and show it is cool to be a “nerd” about stuff. I love sharing my personal interests in nature, travel, film, and crafting. Expect there to be some class pet arthropods :) Annelise Mankowski Life Science Specialist
